After several years, the wait is finally over! Wayward Guide for the Untrained Eye can now be found on The Tin Can Bros Youtube Channel. I really adored working on this production. I met so many amazing creative individuals who I have since had the opportunity to work with on this shoot. It was the first series I was the makeup head on, which was a new challenge for me, and we had so many zany characters that were were able to have fun with. Even ones where at first glance I went “okay so they are just a regular person”, the actors would come in full of ideas of what there character was, and it was a delight getting to work with them to create their look.

New episodes are coming out every week, with 4 episodes already being out at the time of this posting (yes I’m behind on updating things), plus there’s a companion podcast that you can listen to with it too! so definitely go and give it and watch! I legitimately am watching it every week as its such a fun and charming series, and its been long enough since filming, that I legitimately have forgotten things so it makes it a fun treat for me too!

Following up from my previous post, I have further expanded my knowledge base on sanitation and hygiene to develop the best practices to keep everyone I encounter safe. In addition to the certifications I had already received, I now also have been trained and certified by Sanitation Conversation, Dermalogica, and Lucsol.

The health and safety of those who sit in my chair, and those I work alongside with, has been something that I have always greatly cared about. However, there is always room for improvement and things we can change and add to our routine. With this in mind, I am revamping my gear and practices to better meet the health needs of everyone I work with at this time. Going forward, I will be wearing a mask during makeup applications for the foreseeable future and will potentially also be wearing a face shield and gloves. I am redoing how my tools and products are stored in containers to limit there exposure to possible contamination. I will be using more disposable applicators when that is a viable option. Tools that have been used will be placed into a separate marked container away from those that are clean to prevent cross contamination. Along with routine cleaning and disinfection after items have been used, I’m also looking to add a UV Sanitizer Box, and other such tools to further aide in germ removal from my gear.

As we slowly (and safely) begin returning to sets and shoots, I will continue to evolve to what is necessary and what can be improved upon. I think we all know that this is a strange and uncertain time and the only way we can get through it is to be open to change and by being flexible.

Looking forward to getting back to work soon! Until then, stay safe, stay healthy, wash your hands, and wear a mask.
-Roxanne

As everything is on hold for a uncertain amount of time, there are a lot of questions and concerns naturally about how to return to work without risking the health and safety of ourselves and those around us. Proper hygiene and disinfection has been something I have always taken a great deal of care with. Having started in retail cosmetics this was something taught to me very early on, as we’d see so many people daily coming in and trying out products in store. But with the rise of Covid this has put a whole new focus on proper sanitation and disinfection practices.

I want anyone who hires me, or sits in my chair to feel safe and confident that every precaution is being taken to ensure that they are not being put at risk at catching any sickness or infection. So I’ve taken the time to become better educated by taking a number of course. I’ve now received certification from Barbicide, MildayPro, and Safe Sets International. I have several others I plan on taking shorty.

Here we are in the midst of a lock down, being unable to create new work, as staying 6 feet away from people makes it impossible to do makeup. But on the plus side it give me a chance to catch up on sharing all the things I had been working on prior to all this! These shots are from the last photoshoot I was able to do with photographer Wes Ellis and Models Olivia Applegate and Samantha Robinson.

I love doing stylized and period looks, so when I was sent the reference images of moody meets 60s I was all over it! Creatively it was exactly what I needed to get me pumped up to create.

So, I swear I do more then just kickstarter campaigns! But those are things that have quick turn arounds, and everyone is always strongly encouraged to share! So they are the easiest things to put on here and talk about. Usually the idea is to not only promote the work I did, but also to get you to support the project! Well, this campaign hit their goal before I got around to posting about it!

So happy and proud for the entire StarKid Team! I’ve been lucky enough to have worked with several of these people multiple times, and I’m so grateful to have gotten to do so again. While they have already made their goal of $155,000, (at the time of this post they were at $190,000) you can still go and donate to get in on all the amazing rewards and gifts, and support your favorite musical theater group!

Somehow in my life, I feel backwards into the world of digital series. And I am so grateful that it happened! I’ve been fortunate enough to have worked on several webseries and digital shorts. One of the great joys of it is the friends I have made, and that I now get to make cool and creative content with them.
One of those friends is Ashley Clements, who I met when working on the webseries ‘The Wayward Guide for the Untrained Eye’ being made by the Tin Can Brothers. When she told me Brendan Bradley, William J. Stribling, and her were working on an adaptation of Macbeth I was so excited to work with them all! We’ve done the initial phase of filming, but they need some help raising funds to complete the project now. And of course, that where you lovely people come into play.

I really hope you can donate, and help complete this story. It’s been such a joy helping to bring these characters to life in a tech based setting, and I’m looking forward to getting back to work with all these amazing creative people! As of Now, they are nearly 60% to their goal of $25,00. Which is amazing, but they need help to meet the full amount. So be sure to check it out, support if you, gets some cool stuff, and spread the word!

If you have know me for awhile, then I’m sure at somepoint or another you have heard me mention the film Funemployment. I’ve even mentioned it on this blog a time or two. This is because being of that project was such a pivotal thing in my life. It was what started me on the path of full-time becoming a makeup artist in the film industry, and introduced me to friends and collaborators that I worked with for years to come, and to this very day. So, 5 years ago we did principle photography, then we did the kickstarter, then a while later we did some pickup scenes, and then in between then I know the director Christine Chen did countless sessions of ADR, edits, and reedits….but here it finally is! Available for your viewing pleasure.

You can find it on vimeo: http://vimeo.com/ondemand/funemployment
And also on Amazon.

Along with watching the full film finally, the gang has working on a podcast to accompany the film. You can hear from various members of the cast and crew discussing the crazy roller coaster that was the creating of the film! You can find it on all podcast players, and also you can find it in video form on their youtube here

Additionally, as I mentioned in a previous post, I’m actually one of the guest! and am in two episodes. Specifically if you want to hear me reminisce and talk about the shenanigans, and lack of experience I had, watch the two videos below!

Some days you get to work in nice comfy studios, close by, temperature controlled, ect. Then there’s the jobs the make you drive over an hour out to Lancaster at the crack of dawn, and have you working in freezing cold weather outside all day, in a junkyard. As less then ideal as those conditions can be, they do tend to produce some amazing videos. Here’s some new work for singer Max Frost new song “Money Problems”. What is the beginning of a new year without looking back at the years before and what all we have accomplished? And well, luckily friend and director Christine Chen made that super easy for me this year! So flashback to five years ago, when I had was a drift in life, loved makeup, loved movies, wanted to combine the two, but had no clue how to. And into my life came Christine, who was working on her first feature film. And so began the insanity of that project, and many more to come!

Came back to the present, and Christine is getting ready to release that first film, planning on making another! So how does all this happen? Well, here’s the parts you need to know:

-Podcast! Because of what a crazy ride making that first film was, it was decided that it needed to be documented. and what better way then in this day and age, then to do a podcast. You can find the Funemployment podcast on most streaming services. Also if you want to specifically hear from me I’ve included the video of me gabbing:

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_code admin_label=”Video Embed code”]<iframe width=”560″ height=”315″ src=”https://www.youtube.com/embed/vS440o5A5TQ” frameborder=”0″ allow=”accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture” allowfullscreen></iframe>[/et_pb_code][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text” background_layout=”light” text_orientation=”left” use_border_color=”off” border_color=”#ffffff” border_style=”solid”]

-Preselling Funemployment! Yup, as mentioned the film is finally coming out, and you can go ahead are buy it in advance at this link:

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text” background_layout=”light” text_orientation=”left” use_border_color=”off” border_color=”#ffffff” border_style=”solid”]

-Buy the collection of short films! Can’t wait for Funemployment? That’s okay, you can watch a collection of award 5 winning short films that the Moth to Flame Team has worked on! Plus along with getting some instant entertainment, you also get to contribute to funding our next feature. Win win!

its amazing looking back at all these projects, seeing how far we’ve come from making these, and also the pride in sharing them. It has been an interesting 5 years, and I’m so happy with where life has taken me. here’s to the next 5, and making more amazing projects, with great people!

This year I once again returned to Shreveport, Lousiana to work on not one, but two short films to be submitted for The Louisiana Film Prize Competition. And happily both films made it into the top 20 and will be premiering there in October!

This post is going to be focused on  “Not Your Ordinary Hero” which was the brain child of filmmaker Christine Chen, who I have mentioned numerous times in posts as she is one of the directors I’ve most frequently had the pleasure of working for. Having worked with each other as much as we have makes for a wonderful working relationship since we know each others styles and what the expectations are.

Part of what was fun about this project was that compared from some of the previous shorts I’ve worked on with this team it was all fairly straight forward makeup and hair looks. It was normal people, doing normal things, in normal places. The focus was all about the story and enhancing characters without distracting. One of the funny things about being a makeup artist in film is that 75% of the time if my work is not noticed, then its at its best. And part of how this was achieved was by using products from Urban Decay Cosmetics, who were amazing and supported out film. I’ve loved the brand since my early makeup days, and this project solidified why I loved them. The colors were great, and stayed in place, and didn’t cake up. And with the intense humidity of Louisiana that is saying a lot!

So for those going to Shreveport This early October, I hope you enjoy “No Ordinary Hero” and consider it for your vote. watch the video below for a little sneak peak 😀 ¡Viva La Film Prize!
